Find Leon Jail Booking Records Online

A booking record is created at the moment when a detained person is officially registered in the jail. It is the first document that records the fact of being in custody.

During booking, the following data is generated:

  • Unique booking number
  • Date and time of admission
  • List of charges filed
  • Name of the agency that made the arrest (e.g., Tallahassee Police Department or Leon County Sheriff's Office)
  • Basic identification information — name, date of birth, gender, race

Access to these records can be obtained in several ways. The fastest is the online roster on the sheriff's website. If the record is not there, try LeonCourt.us to check court cases related to the arrest. For more detailed criminal history, FDLE provides a public access system for criminal records.

If you need an official copy of the record, submit a public records request. According to Florida law (Chapter 119, Florida Statutes), law enforcement records are public, except for active investigations and certain confidential data. Instructions for submitting a request are available on the Leon County public records request page.

Search the Leon Jail Roster by Last Name or Booking Number

The roster supports two main search methods.

Search by Last Name

  1. Enter the last name in the appropriate field. You can additionally specify the first name to narrow the results.
  2. Check the spelling — even one mistake can lead to no results.
  3. If the system supports partial search, enter the first few letters of the last name to see all matches.

Search by Booking Number

The booking number is the most accurate way to find a specific record. Enter it completely, including all digits and dashes.

If the Search Yields No Results

This does not necessarily mean the person was not detained. Here are a few reasons:

  • The person has already been released, and the record has been removed from the active roster
  • The name is recorded with a different spelling or under an alias
  • Booking is not yet complete — there is a certain time between arrest and appearance in the roster
  • The person has been transferred to another facility or jurisdiction

Try variations of the name spelling. If this does not help, call the jail directly at (850) 606-3600 to clarify the detention status.

Jail Roster Updates and Search Limitations in Leon

The Leon County inmate roster is updated throughout the day, but it does not happen instantly. Between the time of physical arrest and the appearance of the record in the online roster, it may take from a few hours to half a day — depending on the jail's workload and the time required to complete the booking process.

A few important limitations to be aware of:

  • Publication delay. A person may already be in custody but not yet appear in the roster until the registration process is complete.
  • Removal after release. Once an inmate is released — on bail, by court decision, or after serving the term — the record disappears from the active roster. The roster only reflects the current composition of detainees.
  • Not an archive. This is not a database of all past arrests. For historical records, contact the sheriff's records section or submit a public records request.
  • Data entry errors. Sometimes names are entered with errors or abbreviations, complicating the search.

To check court cases related to the arrest, use the resources of the Second Judicial Circuit of Florida, which serves Leon County. Information on cases pending in the county court is available through the clerk of the court's office.

If you need a complete criminal history, not just the current detention status, contact FDLE — the Florida Department of Law Enforcement maintains a centralized state criminal records database.
